Each
country adopts it’s own measures to accept the entrance of
people of other nations, this is why it’s natural for you to ask
yourself: What are the requirements to enter the Dominican
Republic? What can I take? Or What can I not take out with me?
In
general, the foreigners need to obtain a Dominican visa to enter
the country. The visas are classified like Diplomat, Official, of
Courtesy, Businesses, Employees, Tourism, Residence and Student.
These are given out by the Foreign Service of the Dominican
Republic or by the Secretariat of State of Outer Relations.
The
citizens of nations with which Dominican Republic has signed
agreements for the exoneration of the visa requirement, can enter
the country for a period of 60 days just by purchasing a
"tourist card". This can be obtained in the airport, at
your arrival, for the sum of USS10.00, ten dollars.
They
will be able to travel without visa, like tourists, for stays of
up to 90 days, the citizens of Argentina, Austria, South Korea,
Denmark, Ecuador, Spain, Finland, Greece, England (carrying
British passports in whose cover it has the inscription
"United Kingdom of Great Britain), North Ireland or Jersey,
and its dependencies, Islands of the Channel and Island of Man;
Iceland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Norway, Peru (for a period of 60
days); Sweden, Principality of Liechtenstein, Switzerland and
Uruguay.
They
citizens of the following countries can travel with a Tourist Card
(which can be acquired upon arrival at the Americas International
Airport), for a period of 60 days, the countries are: Aruba,
Antigua Albania, Germany, Andorra, Principality and Barbuda,
Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Brazil, Bosnia Herzegovina,
Bulgaria, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Croatia, Dominican, Slovenia,
United States of America, France, Guadalupe, Guyana, Holland,
Hungary, Ireland, Virgin Republic of Turkish Islands, Island,
Jamaica, Luxembourg, Great Ducado de Martinica, Mexico, Monaco,
Principality of Montenegro, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Puerto
Rico, Meeting, Rumania, San Marino, San Vicente and Granadinas,
Santa Lucia, Serbia, Switzerland, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago
and Venezuela.

Independently
of their nationality, but carrying effective passports or
documents of travel that replace the passports, the
following legal residents can also travel with a tourit
card: Germany, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Spain, the United
States, France, Great Britain, Greece, Holland, Ireland,
Italy, Portugal, Luxembourg and Venezuela.
As
a special privilege, only with people with diplomatic or
official passports, can travel to the Dominican Republic
without visa or tourist card, for a period of 60 days, the
citizens of Colombia, Ecuador and Panama.
All
the visitors who enter the country require a tourist card,
that costs ten US dollars. This card frequently
included with the airplane ticket, but it can also be
obtained at the airport. In order to prevent the
international abduction of children, the Dominican Republic
requires that children below 13 years of age, traveling
single or with another person who is not their relative,
must present/display authorization of a relative or somebody
that is legally responsible for the minor. This
authorization must be notified with a Dominican consulate.
Without the authorization, the boy or girl cannot leave the
country.
The
Taxes
The
medicines, narcotics and drugs do not pay taxes if they are
prescribed by a doctor. In any other case, they are
prohibited and to those who they catch bringing them in
illegally, can be deported from the country after being put
to justice.
Alcoholic
beverages, including the wine, don’t pay taxes. In
general, you can import alcohol, wine and tobacco, if it’s
an amount for personal consumption only, (50 cigarettes by
person).
